During his sophomore season, Derek Carbajal placed third in the 400 meters at the Coastal Conference League Meet, earning a qualification spot for the San Diego Section Division 3 Track & Field Championships.

On Saturday, May 16, Derek competed in the second heat of the 400 meters and led the race through the first 300 meters before finishing with a time of 52.84 seconds, good for 14th place overall.

Competing at the section championships was a valuable experience for Derek and gave him a great opportunity to see the level of competition as he continues to develop heading into his junior and senior seasons.
